I don't think Nelly was intentionally TRYING to make a connection to said
event. But, inevitably, since the tragedy had happened on Thursday, the
Grammys were on Sunday, and the amount of press about the fire during those
days was considerable, not to mention the fact that most music fans who
heard about the fire probably thought, at least briefly, "Geez, that
could've been me," it wouldn't take much for someone to see and hear Nelly's
performance and notice the horrible similarity in his lyrics and backdrop,
given the then-recent events in Rhode Island. It's not like Nelly couldn't
have gone with another song / single from the album and gone with a more
low-key stage set-up. No-one should have had to either tell or even ask him
to do that; he should've just thought, "Well, damn, this could be
disconcerting to people."

The "Alias" episode, well, my understanding is that they referenced at the
beginning of the episode that, as a result of recent events, certain scenes
might be disturbing to viewers. THAT'S how you handle the situation and
still leave artistic integrity intact.
