Or BIG SOUND, back around 1980, when Jon Tiven, Ivan Julian, GE Smith,
Mickey Curry, Hilly Michaels, T Bone Wolk, Roger C Reale, The Beehive Queen
and others (even Van Duren) used to act as each others backing bands (and
perform collectively as The Big Sound Orchestra...which brings to mind the
question - was there an earlier tribute record than BIONIC GOLD, the tribute
to gunslinger Phil Spector?) Most of this stuff is NOT on CD, which is a
real shame.

NP: James Brown, BALLADS...I was reminded of just how incredible early JB is
when I was driving in (of all places) Ireland a couple of summers ago. On
the way back from Belfast to Dublin on a Sunday night after dark, praying I
wouldn't get too lost...rented car, wrong side of the road and all that, Mad
Cow checkpoints every so many miles where the car would get sprayed
down...rainy, moody journey...found a great Irish soul station that played
killer tracks the whole way and the feature that night was this collection.
Every third song was James...wow! "Try Me" is absolutely spine-tingling to
this day. As Bruce would say, EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
