Most work PC's don't have great speakers (I have yet to see a 5:1 surround
sound setup in someone's cubicle) or use headphones because they cant blast
them at work. So they can rip low quality Mp3's and cant tell if the sound
quality is good or not. I rip all my (stereo) Mp3s at 192 and higher -
anything less I can hear high end roll-off or distortion.

The biggest goof Sony did with Betamax was not licensing it to other
companies, they didn't want any other companies making cheaper recorders
and cutting into their sales. (Kinda like Apple) JVC (who created VHS)
licenced their format to hundreds of manufacturers in the 80's, so the
market was swamped with VHS recorders by the mid 80's. I had a friend who
had a nice Betamax in the late 80's and I agree that the quality was much
better.

The Movie companies have done a great job promoting DVD - Now if we can
get more classic movies I would be very happy. I have a friend who's a big
Errol Flynn fan and hardly of his 30's/40's movies have gotten the DVD
treatment.

And when you can get a 50 pack of CD-R's for 2.99 after rebate, no wonder
why the RIAA is so scared.
