Hi Michael and all,

These are two of my favorite bands.

The Orchids really did not blend in with the mostly twee roster on Sarah.
They were actually a pub band from Scotland and tended to sound a little
more like that . Epicurean Soundtrack is a wonderful collection of singles
and ep tracks. The other cds they released are Unholy Soul and Striving for
the Lazy Perfection both full cds. They also briefly released the Lyceum ep
on cd in France. The Striving cd was available here in the US on the Widely
Distributed label (which also released a couple of cds by Green).

The Matinee label just in the last few months released R Is for Razorcuts. I
understand it is primarily a best of since their output is sadly out of
print (and really only available on cd in its entireity in Japan).I have yet
to pick up the R Is for Razorcuts cd but intend to as I believe it has some
BBC tracks and such as well.

Another sadly overlooked UK band from this period is the Bodines. They
released several 7"s on Creation , a full length on Magnet in Germany and
then sadly evolved (devolved ) into Medalark 11.

On a different note, the talk about the Warwick,R.I. Great White disaster
made me think of the Coconut Grove fire. I am not sure how many people lost
their lives in that disaster but people who were alive at that time still
talk about it being a news event that affected them and of course songs have
been written about it..
So ...yes the news is here faster and in our faces longer but I agree that
these situations deserve a mourning period.

The Razorcuts-Patterns On The Water. They were an incredibly melodic band
that were on Creation label in the late 80's I think. Absolutely amazing
songs. Think early Felt meets The Only Ones.

The Orchids-Epicurean Another extremely melodic band who some called twee.
A lot of their stuff was kind of Church-y sounding too. They were on the
wonderful Sarah label.

Anybody heard/remember these bands?
