I thought he still was a teenager. Will someone please clear this up for me -- is the guy 16 years old, really? And if so, what's he doing singing about sex like he's had enough to know what he's talking about? Also, don't let the diploma fool ya -- so he knows how to play his scales, big wup. So do a zillion other musicians with more talent than Mayer has in his wildest dreams. I don't like this kid, and neither his pleasant guitar style nor chin dimple have won me over. I might like him better if he'd take the marbles out of his mouth before singing, and (more importantly), if he'd learn from his hero James Taylor and figure out how to write a hook! I blame REM for this phenomenon -- we've been plagued with a generation of formless, mush-mouthed songwriting. The genius of REM is that they could do it with a tune you could whistle. All of their albums should come with a disclaimer: "Kids, don't try this at home."

Call me The Grumpcolter,
W.
