Now that's just ridiculous. The Who didn't cause the crush of people in
Cincinnati back in '79. It's been well-established that the rush for
festival seating (in other words, the best seats are up for grabs for
whoever gets them first) with a lack of clear entrances caused the melee in
which innocent people were trampled or crushed. The Who didn't use
pyrotechnics in a club that holds 400 people or less, which regardless of
who did or didn't give permission is IDIOTIC. If you can't hold a crowd in
a small venue like that without resorting to bullshit like sparklers &
flashpots, it doesn't say much for your music - and in this case, we're
talking about a band that likely had its' fair share of longterm fans
willing to see them do ANYTHING.

I've been a performing musician for 25+ years, and find it absolutely
unthinkable that anyone would utilize stage FX like the sparklers, etc. in a
club venue. And that includes Kiss tributes, one of which apparently was
able to use such pyro in The Station as evidenced on videotape shown on CNN.

I think you really should have thought about your comparison before posting,
as there's NO comparison, even if The Who used pyro during their show...I'll
bet there was no stage wall covered in soundproofing anywhere close to the
performance area at the Riverfront Coliseum, and there likely wouldn't be
anything like that in the kind of venues that such FX would be properly used
in.
