I have to agree with Adam on this one. First of all, we don't know if Will wants to buy back his masters -- and it very much sounds like he doesn't right now. Releasing his own CD while under contract to the label is not a possibility for him, unless he wants to get sued. I think Will is capable of soliciting his fans for funds, if that's his desire. There's a long list of credible artists who've done that already and I'm sure he realizes that's an option.
In the meantime, spend your bucks at Not Lame et al, (buy my CD and help me recoup the 15K I spent! ; ) ) and support the artists who need your help the most.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

P.S. to Bill Holmes (because you asked) -- I've had three label deals in my career so far, one of them for four years on a "mini-major," with all the requisite big-time hoopla. I've turned down deals of all types and read just about every kind of contract an artist can receive. I've watched my career get horribly mishandled by people I've trusted, DIY'd like a woman possessed, and been personally and financially affected by the dismal downward spiral of the music business. At this point, I guess I'm one of those artists labels say "knows too much." ; )
