I like the idea, too, though obviously, uh, Will Owsley would have to like
it, and I'm really not sure that his group is realistically organized to
handle the implications.
It has been done, though. Does anyone remember Dodgy? They broke up when they
lost their frontman Nigel Clarke, but fans loved the group so much that they
ponied up money in just this way to help them release a new album, "Real
Estate" with a new lead singer. I didn't like his voice at all (too Rod
Stewart-y, in a bad way) so I didn't buy it, but you gotta admit that it's a
neat idea, and it certainly worked in that case. It got them tons of free
press, too. --Jason
