I never file-swapped much, probably fewer than a dozen songs, but I have
downloaded a ton of great stuff from band sites, label sites or from places
like mp3.com. I can't think of a single band that I chose to listen to only
the songs I downloaded songs from a file-sharing service. I don't currently
belong to any file sharing service.
I found out about Owsley from a friend who put some stuff on a mix tape. I
went to my local store and ordered it. I've never seen it in a cutout bin,
but I don't record shop at mall stores and I don't live in a city that has a
Virgin or (insert name of big CD retailer here).
Other bands/songs/song parts that I downloaded free and legal, then bought
the CDs, are too numerous to mention.
My point is, the record industry should do a better job of making stuff
available. The Clear Channel Mafia won't give us anything new so we have to
find new stuff ourselves. We pay a huge amount for CDs (often more than I
pay for whole movies on DVD) and I'm not in position to, in essence, gamble
on a CD being good.
And still, I buy more CDs at age 42 than I ever bought records in the my
teens and 20s.

stuff! Bring it!)
