Well, it's not surprising it sounds better than the previous Chicago CD issues. Those were all mastered
by Columbia back in the early daze of the CD era and suffer both from the general mistakes in CD
mastering of that era AND from the Columbia's notorious indifference to quality back then.
When Chicago took back their catalogue from Columbia and issued them on their own label, they
just issued the Columbia CD masters again. They didn't remaster anything. (I've never understood
what lamebrain at Columbia renegotiated the deal with Chicago that allowed them to walk away with their
masters...same comment regards Bowie and RCA, Atlantic and ELP, Elektra and Queen, Elton John and
MCA, etc...)
All that said, I wouldn't expect these to sound all THAT great. I believe that most/all of the
original masters for the original Chicago albums were lost in a fire years ago. That's one of the
reasons for the pausity of unreleased bonus tracks (none on the Columbia issues, not many on the
Rhino issues).
