OK, but don't the majority of individuals here post their best-ofs to the
list at large? And regardless of whether they do or not, reading that X,Yor
Z placed a band on their lists isn't as valuable to me when removed from
the context of my seeing X, Y and Z's opinions on any number of other
bands/topics in a list context over a period of time. Your
partly-responsive answer gets to part of my trouble with your objections in
general, based as they seem to be on the assertion of the superior
diversity of a hundred-odd lists from folks who I don't know, outside of a
list of their favorite records in a pdf file. Does a CoF discussion list
exist? What's CoF's context?

As I've said, I haven't been here long but I already have a handle on some
folks tastes and where they seem to be coming from in their music
appreciation as expressed in posts about music. I'd relish getting the
opportunity to get a handle on your tastes too, Eb, particularly in terms
of what you enjoy rather than what you disdain. Nothing reveals that like
discussion, as opposed to declaration. I'm not new at all to music
discussion lists, and the dissatisfaction that you express and have
seemingly expressed for some others is something I've felt myself at times
elsewhere. But after all the meta-discussion is done, a list always comes
back to the need for somebody to talk about something in order for somebody
else to talk back to them about it. If discussion here is too focused on
music that you've taken every opportunity to express your disinterest in,
it's up to you and like-minded others to talk about what interests you.
Talk about what interests you and it will likely be interesting. Speaking
just for myself, I'm as aware as I think I need to be at this point of what
you aren't interested in.

b.s.
