hey all:

i don't have the mag with me here, and there's no
online link i can find, but the current issue of
Harpers briefly features a truly bizarre couple of
letters (translated from the german), the first from a
pissed off customer who bought a copy-protected Toto
cd that his computer won't play all of, and the second
from the customer 'service' team that basically
insults him, threatens him, and in general tears him a
new asshole for his complaints. Regardless of your
opinion of the burning of cds, the EMI letter/response
is eye-opening as far as the attitude of majors
goes...i frankly can hardly believe this ever left
their office (i suspect this was by email, the kind of
thing you write and send to your boss, but not back to
the customer.) Anyway, it's good for a chuckle,
albeit a chuckle laced with horrified disbelief at the
level of arrogance this exchange displays. Holy crap.

If i get inspired i'll transcribe it tomorrow, but
otherwise check it out - it takes about 2 minutes to
read. It's...uh,...somewhere in the middle of the
issue. Toward the beginning. Hm...speaking of not
very helpful customer service....
