Am I the only one here that buys *used* CD's?

With all the talk about the state of the music industry here, I am surprised that no one has
mentioned the impact that used cds has on the industry. I would think that the impact is much
greater than downloading.

I have broadband and I download a lot, but just to preview stuff- honestly. If it turns out that I
like something a lot, I buy it, but I almost NEVER buy new. (with the exception of some things
that will never turn up used, such as the Jellyfish boxed set, or some other obscure stuff) As a
40 year old who NEVER listens to music on the radio, I never thought I would be buying more cds
than ever right now. If I get a tip on something, I first check out the AMG review on the artist,
then I buy that artist's highest rated cd. If I like it, then I go from there. Is AMG perfect? No,
but they are usually very accurate, imo.

The net makes it too easy to usually find what you want used, as long as you are patient. I mean,
look at sites like Half.com, Spun.com, Djangos, GEMM, Secondspin.com, or even ebay. They are
thriving. If I like a couple of songs on a cd, but the whole thing is not worth keeping, then I
burn myself a copy of it and sell it back to one of those sites. I have about 500 "legit" cds in
my collection, but I am always evaluating what I want as "keepers". No more "one good song, the
rest is crap" cds.

The entertainment industry is the only business that I am aware of that says, "If you're not
completely satisfied with your purchase, then screw you."

Payback's a bitch.

I've been on the list for about a month now, and this is my first post. Thanks to all here for the
recommendations. I definitely need to get some Sloan, Cotton Mather, and Splitsville cds (never
heard of them before joining here).
