The most juvenile thing to come out of the latest round of posts by and about Eb this junior high nonsense about putting Eb on "probation." Next thing you know, Mr. Coxe will take away recess and issue potty passes.

Frankly, not only do I share a lot of Eb's viewpoint about the general "up with music!" pep squad tone that prevails here, but forcing his posts to go through an approval process? Ooh, Revenge of the Geek Pep Squad! How thin-skinned and exclusionary can this place be?

It also distressed me to see two of the people I actually think of as the most valuable, broad-minded people on the list (Mike Bennett, Bill Holmes) deploy their fangs against Eb, though I hope that they don't extend that enmity to supporting this wrong-minded policy.

As I see it, Eb not only backed up his comments with some substance when asked, he jumped through every silly hoop that list members put before him. His reward? His posts now require approval by the authorities, while the people who challenged, insulted, and provoked him can, of course, post freely as usual.

This is an overreaction of classic proportions, and it exemplifies everything that's wrong with this list. It almost makes me wish I had waited a couple of weeks to sell my Myracle Brah CDs, so I could count divesting myself of a derivative Audities favorite as a symbolic act.

later,

Miles
