Delurking to make the wholly unoriginal observation that Audities has
recently hit an all-time low, and seems intent on wallowing there. I was
about to cancel my subscription, but decided to say that I LIKE Audities. Or
used to.

Yes, it is narrow and insulated and imperfect, there doesn't seem to be room
for critical observations or much growth, but it is what it is. Audities'
very narrowness is also its strength, because Audities provides DEPTH. It
puts a spotlight on a dark corner of the musical world, and I'm grateful.
I've heard about a lot of bands that I otherwise might have missed -- and,
from there, I feel free to make my own critical evaluations.

Without commenting on anyone specifically, and without taking sides, I think
there's been a lot of rudeness from many posters. There's a lack of tolerance
all around. In a world lurching toward war, with cataclysmic confrontation
everywhere, while some souls feel compelled to march for peace, well, the
goings-on here seem shameful and petty.

I hope this list can get back to what it provides best -- sharing
information, enthusiasms, and critical insight about power pop. I'd miss it
if I felt compelled to cancel. Hell, I miss it already. I'd bet that many
readers do. For now, I'm simply deleting every 3-4 digests I receive, only to
check back to find more of the same.

Good luck, Michael Coxe. And thanks for your hard work. When my children get
out of hand, we put them in "time out." Maybe that's what this list should do
-- just shut down for a few days of reflection.

It's been a bad stretch. Maybe tomorrow can be a better day. Hey, we're
gaining two minutes of sunlight every day.
