Amen brother Eb! At one of the ChiPO shows last year a fellow auditeer
commented that people on the list tend have a missionary view of power
pop, where the mission is to spread the word of power pop at all costs.
By doing so the conversation is seldom is something good or bad, it's to
what degree of greatness it is. And if I've learned anything since
joining Audities a few years ago, there is a shitload of
mediocre-at-best pop music out there. Luckily there are also quite a few
great bands pushing the envelope and raising the bar.
I love talking about and debating about music whenever possible, it's
one of the many joys that come with being a fanatic about this stuff. I
commend this list for being courteous and seldom falling into the same
pitfalls of other lists, but often the pendulum here swings too far in
the direction of protecting a few thin skinned fans. There's no need to
attack anyone on a personal level, but if you think a band I like are
crappy and you feel the need to say so, go ahead. But hopefully you'll
have a reason or two or example to back it up - and even better you'll
have a suggestion of someone that does it better. And I don't need the
IMHO - I already know it's your opinion.
