Eb,

Well, this last posting (and honestly most of the one's you've launched in
the last week) has probably swung me from being a resigned yanger to
wondering if we've lost the baby in all your bathwater vitriol. If most of
your comments weren't dripping with palpable dislike of the members of this
list, I might feel differently. I tend to value the outsider perspective
you typically express and think it does a community well to hear it. Indeed,
I've specifically pointed to you as a helpful influence around here with
folks off list. Even so, I'd argue we've always had our share of
iconoclasts, and I find it particularly telling that your most vehement
recent outbursts have been directed at some of those folks. It's as though
you'd hoped to corner the iconoclast market here on Audities. I don't know.

But please reread your own last line and decide if you want to be here and
participate in these conversations and debates. Your tone says more than
that you don't care whether Squeeze or XTC is better, but that those who
would deem to talk about these things are themselves trivial and not worthy
of your time. That unfortunately seems to be the bitter pill buried in every
one of your Audities related diatribes.

I feel I have to raise the specter of another member who was once publically
banished. One of his ostensible crimes was his one-sidedness. For every
argument there was no argument - there were only his conclusions. Discussion
wasn't a two-way street, not a conduit of mutual influence. It was only a
soapbox, and he'd shout over everyone else. I can't say I've seen much
different from you. Indeed you've gone on record indicating how uniformly &
consistently disappointed you've been in the bands that are championed here
(but not elsewhere). So, I've basically asked you this before, but if you
don't like what we're serving, don't take up the bandwidth. There's no point
in simply being intransigent and spouting bile. The door is obviously easy
for you to find. Your constant personal animosity here has made you all but
irrelevant, even to those of us who sometimes share your perspectives.

-craig

p.s. and since you feel you have to blast folks for the most trivial of
things - not cc:ing you personally in their responses, I'll be expecting
some kindness from you for doing just that. If you're not sure what to get
me, a Not Lame gift certificate would be great.

Well, I've been inching toward the exit door for weeks, and planned
to leave once the Pazz & Jop was sorted out. But I dunno...since
peripherally saying so in public, I've received some unexpected
emails from less histrionic subscribers (lurkers, naturally) which
tempt me to stay. So, now I'm feeling torn again. Maybe the list
needs some yang to balance all the cheerleaders' yin, and the other
yangers are too resigned to bother speaking up. We'll see. But yeah,
doesn't it just *suck* when the debates get stronger than deciding
whether Squeeze or XTC is a little bit better?
