I was digging around a radio website and found a WOLF Tribute site, with
very nice photos of the jocks, station equipment and a ton of streaming
airchecks - I think its cool that the station is still in its original
building after so many years. http://www.wolf1490.net/
Speaking of East Coast radio, has anyone tuned into WSAI 1530 in Cincinnati
or WKBW 1520 in Buffalo? Both have switched to oldies in the past 2 months.
I have been able to pick up WSAI's 50,000 watt skywave in East Texas before
they change to their night pattern at 7:45. While it's pretty predictable
fare, they do throw some rarities in. Last night I heard the Doo-Wop
classic "Gee" by the Crows and "Little Town Flirt" by Del Shannon gave me
goose bumps on AM on my Realistic/Sangean shortwave receiver.
I'm crossing my fingers these stations are successful. the Nostalgia "Music
of Your Life" format has been dying slowly nationwide (because that
audience is getting older while not picking up any new listeners), and FM
oldies stations have been adding a lot of 70's music. I'm hoping "Early
Oldies" or "Real Oldies" (as WSAI calls it) will be the next big format on
the AM dial.
