Saw an ad {damned right advertising works to sell CDs - and also touring now
and then :)} in the last of issue of Magnet and it led to the following
offerings from Paisley Pop. You know once you go somewhere you can't buy
one CD.

The Broken Hearts - 'Want One?'
This was the one in the ad and I am so happy with this album. It is from an
early band of Michael Mazzarella of The Rooks. The sound is so rooted in
the infectious joy of the early Beatles that you can't not be swept up in
the mood of youthful enthusiasm. There is even a hint of The Move on one
tune. Sorry if he hates the comparison but I can't help it; Mazzarella has
a voice very reminiscent of John Lennon and it shines on these songs. The
bonus stuff includes tunes that were later recorded by The Rooks.

The Windbreakers - 'Boxing day'
This is a limited edition CD-R that presents a 1986 live reunion date for
this band that includes Auditeer Bobby Sutliff and his mate Tim Lee. The
sound on the disc is a little rough but it doesn't matter as this was a
great night for music. Wonderful guitars and vocals that bring to mind the
best of The Byrds and The Beatles. The latter makes sense given Bobby's
recent top 5 post.

Bobby Sutliff - 'All Sorts'
This is a collection of demos and alternate versions and a song that
appeared on tribute disc and is also a limited CD-R. Having really enjoyed
Sutliff's 'Bitter Fruit' I quickly pushed the buy button. Glad I did as
Sutliff's work is very special. The electric version of Bitter Fruit is
great. His version of Streets Of Laredo is worth the price of admission.

Tim Lee - 'Crawdad'
Okay, so I was hooked. This is from 1993. I found the songs of a high
quality and well served by Lee's vocals that have an earthy quality. Lee's
musicianship is of a consistently high caliber throughout.

Girls Say Yes - 'To Boys Who Say No'
This is from 2001 so you are all probably are very familiar with it. I had
never heard it before and I must say that I like it a lot. There is some
wonderful psychedelic soul and lovely girl group sounds here that make for a
very fun record. This was produced by Jim Huie and Russ Tolan. Huie is all
over the place with his fine voice and guitar and drums. Hell he even sold
me all of these CDs via PayPal and he seems like a very good man. Did I
mention that the great Bobby Sutliff plays a fantastic lead guitar on the
song Beckon? He does.

Henry
