****Point taken, certainly, but at least from a personal standpoint I
thought that "Supergrass" was evidence of a lack of new ideas. Despite some
high points it had a lot of filler--something the first two Supergrass
records really didn't have--and the songs seemed to be overburdened with a
sense of dread, particularly in that fatal slow spot in the middle of the
album (around "Shotover Hill").****

Wow, I had a totally different experience with the "Supergrass" album. I
don't think I have one album in my collection that gets incrementally better
from start to finish, and the album has the uncanny ability to jostle my
emotions back and forth throughout. I like the new album just fine, but
there is nothing really special or remarkable about it. For me, "Life On
Other Planets" is a good, solid, consistent listen, but "Supergrass" is in
another league entirely.
