should have made a solo album. I see no one rushed to nominate Clash bassist
Paul Simenon. (Don't look at me!) I'm always amazed that Mike Campbell, Tom
Petty's righthand man, has never put out a solo album. He must have a REALLY
bad voice. Great musician, though!

Actually, Campbell's takes a stab at "Bumble Bee" on Los Straitjackets' 2001
"Sing Along With Los Straitjackets" CD. (The album features the masked
instrumentalists performing with such eclectic guest vocalists as Raoul
Malo, Mark Lindsay, Dave Alvin, Nick Lowe, Allison Moorer, Exene Cervenka
and El Vez. )

Campbell acquits himself quite well, IMHO. His voice is somewhat raw and
soulful--the comparison which hit me first is Keith Richard with a sense of
pitch. While he definitely shouldn't quit his main gig, a solo album
wouldn't be out of the question.

Your mileage may, and probably will, vary.
