There is an excellent website about Burger Chef at:
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/jsf605213/myhomepage/ They had 1,200 stores,
but went downhill quickly in the 70's - I guess they had bad management, or
couldn't stop the onslaught of McDonalds and Burger King.
They still had a few in Tulsa in the mid 70's, I remember seeing that
machine in the back cranking out cooked patties. I think most were
converted to Hardees (which moved out of the southwest and replaced by the
wretched Carls Jr - lousy burgers on cold buns), or torn down and replaced
by other fast food restaurants.
