Hi again, I agree with you comment Elizabeth and I'm sure we could find a "universally liked" band (well maybe).  I thought the original question was something "like what are the bands that everyone loves" or who defines us as a group in some way.  That's what I was curious about anyway. I doubt there is such a thing for everyone in the current pop scene. I also don't think that's a "BAD" thing or a knock on the "pop scene". It speaks more to the uniqueness of our taste or what we might individually respond to.  I mean after all, I know that not everyone on this list even LIKES the Beach Boys, The Who, Big Star and I'm sure many more "pop icons".  
I guess, I think it's a strength that we each respond to most strongly is diverse.  Isn't that how love is?  But that's just my 2 cents.
