Since Steve already knocked out Blondie and Cheap Trick, let me deal with
Crowded House. I think their singles are timeless classics -- my band
somehow ended up jamming on Don't Dream It's Over and Something So Strong
just last weekend -- but I can't get into either the Crowded House CD or
Woodface as an album.

Maybe the Pistols?

Perhaps more importantly, I think we may have set our standards so high
as to prevent us from finding any success in this endeavor.
Specifically, I don't think the test that has developed here, which seems
to be "I can't say I love a band unless I love each and every one of
their releases", is really a fair one.

Example: I LOVE R.E.M. That cannot be denied. All of their releases
from the start through Lifes Rich Pageant are damn near perfect, as far
as I'm concerned. Their last two records? Some great songs here and
there, but I can take them or leave them as albums. But I still LOVE
R.E.M.

ELO's another good one. I'm with them 100% from the start through
Discovery. (The recent 2 CD release of No Answer with tons of bonus
material is great, btw!) Time has some great stuff but is too gawky for
me to love it. And nothing after that really does anything for me, other
than Zoom and Jeff's solo. But I can say without hesitation that I LOVE
ELO.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that we're never going to find
any band that everybody here loves all of their albums. But I suspect if
we adopted more reasonable criteria (e.g., bands we tell other people we
"love", or bands we think are absolutely awesome yet not perfect), we'd
find a couple. After all, there do seem to be a few that everybody here
at least "likes".

g

P.S. To the person who didn't like Big Money Item, there are a bunch of
"growers" on there. (That's what happens when you go for texture over
in-your-face.) If you haven't listened to it in a while, try giving it
another shot.
