David (and everyone else): I think there's a *chance* that labels are waking
up to the fact that there's a resurgence in "young" up n' coming power pop
type bands. Elektra recently signed AM Radio (managed by Rivers Cuomo
of Weezer), and I know for a fact that the Sights (who I've raved about
before) have been "scouted" by, and met with, A&R people from Capitol
(which ended with the group walking out in the middle of the interview/meeting), 
and Seymour Stein of Sire, just to name a few...I'm sure there are tons of 
other examples (perhaps better ones) to illustrate my point, but more and
more I'm hearing a buzz on pop bands getting scouted by "major label" A&R
folks.
