Love the Waking Hours' new one...awesome harmonies, great songs, blah, blah,
blah. "Whispered News" and "Jade," in particular, are standouts. Nice tough
guitar sound, too.
Sorta like Andrew's (Sandoval) new EP on Vibrophonic (apparently he has
another one coming out on Bus Stop, also). Good songs, nice jangle, drums by
the man who most assuredly will be the best man at David Bash's wedding, Ric
Menck. Minor problem: poor Andy can't really sing.
Also, anyone here remember The Farmers? They hailed from Chi-town, I think,
and released two discs in the early '90s on the Flying Fish label. Pulled
out the debut last night and listened----still quaint, cutesy, minimalist pop
(with no bassist), with a lead vocalist that sounds like a cross between
Buddy Holly and Peter Noone. Best moment: when the guy breaks out into a
dorky-ass giggle during the instrumental break on "Baby Doll," the cd's best
tune.
Wonder what ever happened to them?
