I thought that those of you working in the radio business would be
interested in this article from today's Times. It reviews how Daly's radio
show is customized digitally to simulate a "local" program in 11 markets.
That removes the need for local on-air DJs. The program is produced by
Premiere Radio Networks. They are owned by Clear channel.
The technology is fairly advanced and Clear Channel will certainly work to
expand its use with other announcers having national name recognition.
Needless to say, the broadcast unions are scrambling to see if this practice
violates existing labor agreements.
