Gary said.... As much as I hate participating in another "bands you like
suck" thread,
I'm intrigued by the possibility that either a universally loved or hated
group exists.
<Snip>

Hi Gary,
We may be in an "army of two" but since I asked, I'll respond.  I agree on
the futility of arguing of "how can you think the band I love
sucks"...really that's my point of what I was musing about.  We are "known"
to be so collectively similar in taste by the very nature of this group.
But I'm guessing were also as diverse. I know this has been talked about in
great detail previously so I won't belabor this...

Gary continued. Since we're limiting the question to the CURRENT scene (and
therefore
excluding The Beatles, Jellyfish, etc.), let me nominate a few current
artists and see if anybody will dare to knock them out of the
"universally loved" category. In NO particular order:

<snip>
Of your list, I "like" the following but don't LOVE them...(*) (please don't
send me any letter bombs)
Matthew Sweet, Owsley ,"Teenage Fanclub

Others that I'm CERTAIN others don't love.
Myracle Brah, Sloan
Anyone ready to whittle the list down more?

Squeeze
XTC
Splitsville
The Merrymakers
Cherry Twister
Aimee Mann
The Vandalias
The Shazam

Okay, I'll bite

Aimee can be an artist that I find unappealing, let's face it, who could ever
forgive her for taking part in those horrible "Til-Tuesday" videos in the
mid-eighties. During a pop-up video a year or two ago, the other band
members were said to have been shocked by the focus on her, and there
relative shove into the background, and her version of ONE, on the "For the
Love of Harry:Everybody Sings Nilsson" album,, is uninspiring, i compartive
to Three Dog Night's version anyway, I have to hit forward play on that track
everytime.

I guess I'll begin to walk the plank now...

But I leave happily the following....

Squeeze
XTC
Splitsville
The Merrymakers
Cherry Twister
The Vandalias
The Shazam
