>Matthew Sweet
LIKE. Matthew is one of those artists who I feel the need to own all of his
original releases. There's always something worthwhile, even on BLUE SKY ON
MARS
>Squeeze
Early stuff is good/great, and after EAST SIDE STORY, hit and miss. LIKE
>XTC
I think they rank up there with The Beatles, The Kinks, The Beach Boys and
stuff. WORSHIP
>Owsley
LIKE. May end up loving, not enough music out there yet.
>Splitsville
LOVE. PET SOUL is fine, and I'm usually a sucker for the Dukes of
Stratosphear type projects, but I love their 'regular' songwriting so much
better. Their lyrics are aces, which may get overlooked sometimes.
>The Merrymakers
LIKE.
>Myracle Brah
LOVE. Only one of their four LPs fails to get much play, and BLEEDER really
introduces some cool textures and such.
>Teenage Fanclub
LIKE. While I like their sound, many of their songs don't kill me and I
wish they had a stronger personality.
>Cherry Twister
REALLY LIKE. Also like both Ward's and Giblin's post-Twister efforts.
>Aimee Mann
LIKE...but I'm getting tired of her. It's not just that her stuff sounds
the same, but she has an extremely limited voice, so song after song comes
across in the same tone. Brilliant lyricist.
>Sloan
LOVE. They do so many different things well.
>The Vandalias
LOVE. Dan Sarka has '70s AM Radio coursing through his veins and knows what
sounds good about that era.
>The Shazam
LOVE. One of the best power pop bands ever. Comparing to The Move seems
pretty limiting. It's not like The Move stuck with one identifiable sound.
Do you mean the "Grass Grow" Move? "Blackberry Way"? SHAZAM (the album)?
The Jeff Lynne-era Move? They draw from a lot more than that well and go in
different directions.
