<<I'll go for the trifecta:
XTC - overrated IMNSHO. Flashes of brilliance but can't take a lot of it in
one sitting. Like Shoes, always leaves me wanting but I can't put my finger
on it exactly (where with Shoes it's the wimpiness where there should be an
occasional wallop).
Squeeze - Two great albums and a lot of great songs, and Tilbrook is one of
the best voices EVER. Yet outside the Argybargy/East Side Story period I
liked the albums but never run to grab them off the shelf.
The Merrymakers - well, there's not much of a catalogue to weigh against the
likes of Squeeze, is there. I like them but don't love them.
Guess that leaves Splitsville...maybe it's because I've seen them play a
couple of times, but I enjoy the hell out of their records, play them often,
find them clever and funny as well as musically appealing and would be
depressed if their records disappeared from my collection. So yeah, I love
Splitsville.>>
That's funny, Bill, because I was just about to post and knock Splitsville
off the list. I like them, but only LOVE one of their records ("The Complete
Pet Soul"). Otherwise, it's just selected songs that kill me from them, like
"Big Red Sun" and "Ponce de Leon." Always liked the Greenberry Woods better,
I guess.
And I agree with Bill on XTC and Squeeze..........
