<<This is a timely discussion for me. I had posted awhile back on Squeeze
and picked up a variety of discs by them. PLAY also didn't grab me like
their earlier discs. The songs all kind of melded together and nothing
really stood out for me. However, I had wondered if it is one that must be
heard a few times. So now, I'm gonna revisit it again and see if it "sinks
in">>
many have suggested that Squeeze's "Play" is a grower. i did listen once
again last night and i stand corrected - there is a lot of melody in there.
however, i'm not yet digging it enough to get to the point where i think
it'll get on my play list -- but i'll give it a few more chances down the
road.
also am listening to a few blasts from the past - namely, XTC's English
Settlement - what a great album!
and, at the other end of the pop spectrum, All the Pain $ Can Buy from
Fastball. This is IMHO a really good cd - instantly catchy song after song.
so whatever happened to these guys? one hit wonders? i have their
subsequent cd Harsh Light of Day - if i remember, i liked it tho not as much
as Pain. apparently these guys are coming to my town (Pittsburgh) and
playing at some small neighborhood bar -- Moondogs on 2/14. I'll have to
give them a few fresh listens to see if i want to check them out.
finally, scored some good $1-5 finds at the bins again last night - 2 of
Stew's (TNP) solo cds (picked up per Stewart Mason and other auditeer
recommendations), Idlewilds dumb gifted and beautiful, Wannadies s/t,
Marvelous 3 (both) , Dave Edmunds Plugged In. Also, Steve Wynn kerosene man
- is this the guy from Cherry Twister? if so, never heard of this one, but
it was only $1, so what the hey. i know very little to nothing about any
of these cds and have yet to listen to all -- pre-listen comments are
welcome!
