[Last updated on: Wed Aug 2 21:10:38 2000] Welcome, from the Kennedys: Hi, everyone, and welcome to Jangle Poets! We'd like to thank Sheila Turner for approaching us and offering her time and talent in putting this list together and maintaining it. We'd also like to thank Jeff Wasilko at smoe who was kind enough to host the list on his site. We welcome everyone and encourage questions and discussions regarding our CDs, live shows, videos, tour schedule, collaborations with other artists, songwriting, or fashion sensibilities (-: We'll participate as well, as time allows, and look forward to these discussions! Peace & Love Pete & Maura The Kennedys --------------------------------------------------------------------------- And welcome from me! Welcome to the Jangle-Poets, the e-discussion list for fans of Pete and Maura Kennedy (The Kennedys). It's great to have you joining us for this VERY new undertaking, and we look forward to getting to know you! This list is open to anyone who is interested in exchanging information about The Kennedys, including your favorite songs/CDs, radio appearances, news about Pete and Maura, web sites and other on-line events, concert reviews, magazine and newspaper articles, etc. Also welcome are exciting "discoveries" of similar and up-and-coming artists. Word of mouth is the way to go!! Though you are more than welcome to lurk, we invite you to introduce yourself and tell us about your life, when you first became a fan of Pete and/or Maura and/or The Kennedys, when you've seen them in concert or met them, what your favorite songs/CDs are, and what other artists you admire. To post to the list, send an e-mail to jangle-poets@smoe.org. Your mail will be delivered to members of the group promptly. To unsubscribe from the list (though we'd hate to lose you), send an e-mail to jangle-poets-request@smoe.org and have the first line of your mail say "unsubscribe." It is my hope that this will be a positive place to be...and I look toward all members to take their part in seeing that this is so. Anyone who knows Pete and Maura and their music knows that theirs is a message of tolerance, respect, peace, and freedom, and they not only talk the talk...they walk the walk. When trying to come up with "rules" and such, the same two words kept running through my mind: "Play Nice." But, I'll throw in a few others: 1. Please be polite and respectful of other members' opinions. While you might not always agree with someone, you should respect their right to have an opinion, even if you think they're nuts. Flaming will not be tolerated. 2. Be succinct. Remember that many members receive their mail at their workplace and may not have time to read long missives. Avoid including whole other messages in your reply unless it's absolutely necessary (just include the relevant quote for context). If you're sending in something off-topic or with no Kennedys' content, put OT or NKC in the subject heading. 3. Private responses to individual e-mails should happen off list. Make sure that your mail is of interest to several members before posting to the list. Also, be advised that hitting "Reply" will send mail to the entire list, so if it's your intention to just reply to the person who sent it, make sure to take the list address out of there and put in the individual's (I can't tell you how many times I have forgotten to do this). 4. Keep on or near the topic of the Kennedys. Some digression is fine but try not to let it get out of hand. 5. Any discussion about Pete and Maura's personal life, where they live, their family, friends, etc., is STRICTLY forbidden unless it's been put in the public domain by Pete and/or Maura or their associates. If a member does not adhere to these guidelines or in any way bothers other members of the list, then I will contact that person directly. If the problems persist, that person will be unsubscribed from the list. This is a very new endeavor, and while I am trying to ensure that all runs smoothly from the start, chances are we will experience the occasional growing pang. If you have any problems or concerns, please contact me, Sheila Turner, at JanglePoets@aol.com. Any input is welcome, but I especially love kind words, constructive criticism, suggestions, hints, tips, etc. I have never run an e-discussion list before and will be learning as I go, so please be tolerant of me while I do!!
